Se cumplen dos años de la canonización de Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu, nombre secular de la Madre Teresa de Calcuta; oriunda de Albania, conocida mundialmente por su labor pastoral y caritativa siempre al servicio de los más pobres entre los pobres.
El rostro de Cristo está en los pobres
Nació el 26 de agosto de 1910, en la actual Macedonia, pero su impulso misionero la condujo por el camino de la vida religiosa, convirtiéndose en misionera en la India: un destino que marcaría para siempre su forma de ver el mundo y especialmente, de comprender el sufrimiento causado por la pobreza y la exclusión social.
«En el rostro de los pobres y olvidados veo a Cristo vivo que tiene hambre y sed de justicia», es una de sus frases más populares y que Madre Teresa no se cansaba de repetir.
Fundó la Congregación de las Misioneras de la Caridad, cuyos proyectos se centran en el cuidado de los más pobres y necesitados de las sociedades a nivel global y de la cual ella misma solía decir: «Nuestro objetivo no es sólo hacer este trabajo, sino saciar la sed de Dios, la sed de Jesús en la Cruz por el amor a las almas. Esa sed de Jesús en la Cruz la saciamos con nuestro amor en acciones».
Una misionera elevada a los altares
El 4 de septiembre de 2016, el Papa Francisco canonizó a Teresa de Calcuta en una soleada Plaza de San Pedro abarrotada de miles de fieles y peregrinos.
También estuvieron presentes muchas personas marginadas que viven en las calles y que quisieron formar parte de aquel momento histórico en el que, una mujer humilde que vivió siempre para los demás; fue elevada a los altares en memoria de su labor misionera de alcance internacional: años después de su muerte, ella sigue siendo el rostro práctico de la caridad, entendida como la entrega total de uno mismo.
