Simultáneamente, la catedral maronita de San Elías en Alepo, Siria, y la iglesia de San Pablo en Mosul, Irak, serán iluminadas de rojo, símbolo de la sangre de los cristianos martirizados.
En el encuentro con Francisco también estuvo presente Rebecca Bitus, una joven cristiana nigeriana que huyó de los terroristas de Boko Haram tras permanecer dos años cautiva.
