Tras los suicidios, que crecieron un 1 por ciento en un año, están las caídas accidentales, que provocaron la muerte de 2.749 personas, y el ahogamiento, sumersión y sofocación, que se cobraron la vida de 2.370 ciudadanos, cifras superiores a los muertos por accidente de tráfico que sumaron 1.873 (1.429 hombres y 444 mujeres).
Estos datos forman parte de la encuesta «Defunciones según la causa de muerte» que elabora el Instituto Nacional de Estadística (INE) y en la que también llama la atención que las demencias causasen la muerte de 17.883 personas y el alzhéimer acabase con la vida 14.022.
Estas enfermedades ya suponen la cuarta y la séptima causa de muerte más habituales en España y en ambas destaca la sobremortalidad femenina ya que de cada diez fallecidos, siete son mujeres. Efe
