El Papa emérito Benedicto XVI ha aparecido en público para recibir a los representantes del gobierno de Bavaria (Alemania), para agradecer la donación del árbol de Navidad de la Plaza de San Pedro
«Este árbol ilumina no solo la Plaza de San Pedro, sino el mundo entero», afirmo el Papa emérito, quien señaló que «todos lo pueden percibir como un signo de luz, amistad, reconciliación y bondad. Este árbol nos dice que Dios es nuestro amigo, y que por lo tanto somos hermanos los unos de los otros. Este es un mensaje que necesitamos ahora mismo, cuando hay tantas amenazas de hostilidad y terror. Necesitamos fortalecer nuestra amistad para llevar luz al mundo»
