«No me parece verosímil que puedan verlo juntos», ha señalado Lombardi a los periodistas, que se han interesado por saber si era posible que ambos papas vieran juntos el partido de fútbol, al tiempo que ha mostrado sus dudas de que Benedicto XVI «vea el partido».
En cuanto a Francisco, gran aficionado al fútbol e hincha declarado del San Lorenzo de Almagro en su Argentina natal, el portavoz no ha podido confirmar si verá la final. «El Papa Francisco suele irse a dormir a las 22:00 horas y la final empezará a las 21:00. Podría seguir viéndola, pero no tengo información en ese sentido», ha reconocido.
En todo caso, Lombardi se ha mostrado convencido de que el Papa «se mantendrá informado del resultado». Lo que no hará será ningún pronóstico, ha agregado, puesto que «los papas son personas superiores y dicen siempre que gane el mejor».
La coincidencia de que sean precisamente los países de los dos papas los que se enfrenten en la final del Mundial de Brasil había provocado una ola de comentarios y bromas en las redes sociales y había generado la expectativa de que ambos pudieran ver el partido juntos.
