Sucedió que un sábado Jesús atravesaba un sembrado, y sus discípulos, mientras caminaban, iban arrancando espigas.
Los fariseos le preguntan: «Mira, ¿por qué hacen en sábado lo que no está permitido?».
Él les responde: «¿No habéis leído nunca lo que hizo David, cuando él y sus hombres se vieron faltos y con hambre, cómo entró en la casa de Dios, en tiempo del sumo sacerdote Abiatar, comió de los panes de la proposición, que solo está permitido comer a los sacerdotes, y se los dio también a quienes estaban con él?»
Y les decía: «El sábado se hizo para el hombre y no el hombre para el sábado; así que el Hijo del hombre es señor también del sábado» (San Marcos 2, 23-28).
COMENTARIO
¡Qué fácil nos resulta a las personas religiosas ajustarnos a las normas, ésas que hemos aprendido como beneficiosas para nuestra salvación! Y también, qué fácil es acomodarse a esas normas, perder su sentido, y lo que es peor, considerar que quienes no las cumplen no están en el buen camino.
Por eso es conmovedor ver cómo Jesús se detiene a responder con calma a esos fariseos, les pone el ejemplo de David en la Escritura, les explica las razones de que no respeten el sábado sus discípulos (probablemente no habían comido bien, como les pasó a David y los suyos) y, finalmente, les invita a calibrar justamente el valor de las normas, a considerar siempre por encima de ellas a los otros hombres: el sábado se hizo para el hombre, para que éste tuviera un día para dedicarlo a Dios exclusivamente, y no al revés, no es una esclavitud, sino una liberación.
Todo ello, gracias a Jesús, que es el Señor, también de las normas. Por Él, también nosotros podemos gustar la libertad de los hijos de Dios.
