SOLO APARECERÁ EL ESCUDO PONTIFICIO
La Oficina vaticana para Filatelia y Numismática ha confirmado que el Papa Francisco ha ordenado retirar su efigie de las monedas de euro emitidas por el Vaticano. Las nuevas monedas para el año 2017 aparecen solo con la escudo de armas papal.
Por primera vez desde que el Vaticano emite monedas no figura el rosto del Pontífice reinante. Hasta ahora, la efigie de Francisco había aparecido de tres maneras diferentes en todas las monedas (de 1 céntimo hasta 2€).
Aunque el Vaticano no es un estado miembro de la Unión Europea, se le permite emitir monedas de euros, gracias a un acuerdo del año 2010. En ese mismo año se emitieron 2.3 millones de euros en monedas vaticanas.
