A su regreso de Río de Janeiro, el Pontífice pasó por la basílica de Santa María la Mayor antes de ir al Vaticano
Como hizo al día siguiente a su elección como Papa y también justo antes de partir hacia Río, rezó ante la Virgen «Salus Populi Romani». Pero este lunes no se limitó a orar, sino que tuvo además un simpático gesto, al depositar sobre el altar un balón de playa y una camiseta de la JMJ que se había traído de Río.
Concluía así una semana intensa de la que se le ve plenamente satisfecho. Él mismo confesó en el avión que está «contento» por la JMJ de Río, que le «ha hecho mucho bien». «Estoy bastante cansado, pero con el corazón alegre», aseguró el Pontífice.
Hizo notar que «no ha habido ni siquiera un incidente con los muchachos que han participado», como tampoco los hubo con su seguridad en un coche sin blindaje. Reconoció que «siempre puede haber un loco, pero también está el Señor. El blindaje entre un obispo y el pueblo es una locura. Yo prefiero la locura de la cercanía».
